Our son LOVES everything construction. His favorite piece of equipment is the excavator. So, it was no surprise when he requested an ‘excavator’ 4th birthday party. But how was I going to create a unique construction party? There are SO many parties showcased with this theme already!
Our design inspiration was certainly the excavator, which was displayed front and center on the dessert’s backdrop. But, in an effort to create a unique, modern construction design theme, we chose to go with non-traditional colors: shades of blue, grey, orange and white.
The splurge item on the dessert table was most certainly the cake, featuring construction trucks, modern textures and orange safety cone candles. Custom cookies by Frost Bake Shoppe were displayed on crushed cookies to resemble dirt. For simplicity’s sake, we added printable cupcake toppers to plain cupcakes. To add height, the cupcakes were displayed on boxes which were wrapped in gift wrap to resemble steel.
The children’s seated tables were styled simply with crisp white linens, black wooden chairs and a black chalkboard runner with chalk marks to create a fun road for the plastic trucks. White construction dress-up hats were placed at each seat for guests to play with during the party.
For party favors, we went with one of my favorites…dress-up activities! Since I’m not a fan of sending children home with tons of sweets or plastic items that end up in the wastebasket, I sent each child home with a fabric Home Depot tool belt filled with a measuring tape, safety glasses, construction stickers and foam tool pieces to play with.
