Creating a beautiful Ofrenda with Hauz & Co.

Día de Muertos is coming around the corner, and each year we celebrate it on Nov. 1st and 2nd.

In celebrating and remembering our ancestors and friends, I want to share with you some things that you might not know about the holiday. The grand design and details of every part of an Ofrenda for Día de Muertos are unique and symbolic. Here are some quick facts of common things you will find on an Ofrenda:

An arch is built to symbolize the entrance and exit of the spirit world.

Yellow is represented with Cempazúchitl, also known as marigolds, to help guide their spirits into the mortal world.

Fire in the form of candles helps guide our ancestor spirits while they travel.

Photos and personal belongings are placed to attract them to the altar.

Sugar skulls are placed to represent our deceased.

Pan muerto represents the generosity of the host, an earthly gift.

Papel picado represents the delicate union between life and death.

There's quite a bit, right?! And there's still more to an Ofrenda!

Evite makes it easy to spread the word about the celebration by sending an Evite to your family & friends. Your guests might get there late, but at least they can't say they didn't receive the invite as soon as you made it!

I hope you can all join us in celebrating this month on Día de Muertos!
