Ever since I was young, I had a passion for creativity and the drive to hustle. My mom was always a talented painter and drawer, so I guess I got my artistic genes from her. And my dad always found a way to provide for the family while still enjoying his career, which inspired me to do the same. I knew back then that I wanted a career that would let me be creative and do what I loved. I'm lucky enough to have made that dream come true thanks to my parents' support. I'll always be grateful for them letting me express my creativity from a young age.
Colorful, nostalgic, playful.
Traveling, vintage signs and fonts, trendy patterns and prints.
It is all about a work/life balance, which I am still learning to navigate at times. To get out of a creative block, it usually helps to take a break from my computer and do something just for me. Sometimes I'll go to a yoga class or take a walk to the park with my kids. It's amazing how refreshed and energized I feel when I get back to my desk to continue working.
I have to say that quitting my 9-to-5 job and starting my own business at the age of 23 was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've had the chance to travel and work for months at a time which has been life-changing. Plus, I can work from home and spend more time with my two boys, which is super important to me.
San Diego had its first-ever hurricane warning the other day, and my friend had planned her daughter's birthday party on that exact day. I thought for sure she would cancel, but guess what? She didn't! She invited about 20 kids inside and managed to pull off an amazing party. She even got a face painter and balloon person at the last minute. The whole theme was based on my “Let’s Shellabrate” invite. I love designing invites for my friends and then attending the party to see how it all turns out!
I've been running my own creative business for almost 10 years now, and one thing I've learned is that you need to dream big but also stay grounded in the business side of things if you want to make it as an artist or creator. I know it's not always easy for creative types, but it's super important if you want to stay in the game long-term.
Power moves. This is more of my mantra for life and work. Each year, my husband and I set goals and just go for it. It keeps life interesting and feels great when we accomplish them together.
Lately, I've been really into those wavy, hand-drawn, organic shapes that seem to be popping up everywhere. I've seen them in home decor, clothing, and even invitations. I can definitely see those becoming more popular throughout 2024.
I'm really excited to share my invitation designs with Evite's community and be a part of even more celebrations! Invitations are usually the first step in planning an event, and it's amazing to think that someone might choose my design to announce their wedding, birthday, or another special occasion. It's why I love this job so much!
